All-Parish Outdoor Mass

Dear Queen of the Holy Rosary Family,

The last 20 months have required a great deal of flexibility. The COVID-19 pandemic has created an environment that is always changing, and this week has been no different. A few days ago, I sent out a personal invitation for all of us to join together to celebrate our Blessed Mother’s birthday; however, in light of the current levels of community transmission of COVID, the Outdoor Mass Planning Committee and I feel it necessary to make some changes to those plans.

Our favorite way to gather is around the table of the Lord for the Eucharist. We will still celebrate the Eucharist together at an All-Parish Outdoor Mass at 10:00 a.m. on September 12. After so many months of being apart, what a happy occasion that will be! However, to protect the most vulnerable in our parish and community, we are postponing the picnic portion of our celebration until a time when community transmission has reached safer levels for large gatherings. Please review the information below for details on our new schedule for the day.

While we are disappointed not to have the full celebration we had planned, we are filled with joy at the opportunity to pray together as a parish. I said in my invitation letter that there is nothing a mother loves more than her children gathered with her in one place, and that is true even if it is only for a short time. Let us all join together on September 12 with love and gratitude for each other, for the intercession of our Blessed Mother, and for the blessings our Lord has granted us.

With gratitude,

Father Bill Bruning

We greatly appreciate everyone who has volunteered to support our event! We still need help on Saturday evening to set up for our Outdoor Mass, and on Sunday afternoon to clean up, so please click the green button below to volunteer.

Because of the changes to our plans we will no longer need donations of water or cookies. Thank you so much for your generosity!

The parking lots on the parish and school campus will be used for Mass. Some parking spaces are reserved for those with physical limitations (see event map). All other parking will be at the Shawnee Mission School District Center for Academic Achievement at 8200 W. 71st Street. A shuttle bus will run from the CAA to Queen of the Holy Rosary every 15 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. We respectfully ask that all shuttle passengers over the age of 2 years old wear a mask while riding the shuttle.

In the spirit of getting to know the members of our community, we would like everyone to wear a name tag while attending the Outdoor Mass. Name tags will be available on the shuttle bus as well as at the Registration/Information Tables (see event map).

10:00 a.m. in the East Parking Lot

Confession and Saturday 4:00 p.m. Mass will take place as scheduled on September 11. In case of inclement weather on Sunday, we will resume our regular Mass schedule (7:00, 9:00, and 11:00 a.m.). Cancellations will be announced via the website and Parish App.

Bring your donations to the driveway on the east side of John Paul II School.
