The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the Catholic Church's process of faith formation for adults who are interested in learning more about Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith. OCIA is a journey of discovery, prayer, conversation, and community—not a commitment to join the Church.
People participate in OCIA for many different reasons. You may be:
- Interested in becoming Catholic.
- Baptized in another Christian tradition and considering entering the Catholic Church.
- Baptized Catholic but have not yet received First Communion or Confirmation.
- Looking to deepen your understanding of the Catholic faith.
- Accompanying a spouse, family member, or friend who is exploring the Church.

If you're interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, we invite you to attend one of our OCIA Inquiry Sessions. These informal gatherings are an opportunity to meet the team, ask questions, and learn about the OCIA process. There is no obligation to continue beyond the inquiry sessions.

Inquiry sessions begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held at St. Pius X Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas. Registration is not necessary; if you have questions, just fill out the form below and someone will get back to you.
Thinking about becoming Catholic?
You don't need to have all the answers before you begin. OCIA is a welcoming place to explore the Catholic faith, ask questions, and grow at your own pace.
Inquiry sessions are August 20, August 27, or September 3, and classes begin in September. Everyone is welcome.
What to Expect
Following the inquiry sessions, regular OCIA classes meet on Wednesday evenings beginning September 9 and continue throughout the year. During these weekly gatherings, participants explore:
- Sacred Scripture and the teachings of Jesus
- Catholic beliefs and traditions
- Prayer and the sacraments
- The Mass and liturgical life of the Church
- Living as a disciple of Christ
- Opportunities for questions and open discussion
The process is designed to meet each person where they are in their faith journey. There is no pressure, and questions are always encouraged.
Becoming Catholic
For those who choose to continue the journey, the process culminates in receiving the Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism (if needed), Confirmation, and Holy Communion—usually during the Easter Vigil celebration. Each person's path is unique, and the timeline may vary depending on individual circumstances and previous sacramental preparation.

You do not need to be Catholic to attend OCIA sessions. Whether you are just beginning to explore faith or have been considering becoming Catholic for years, we invite you to come, listen, ask questions, and discover what the Church teaches.
