Altar Servers

Altar servers have the privilege of assisting the priest celebrant with the various functions of Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Servers carry the cross, the processional candles, hold the book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer, present the bread, wine, and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts or assist him when he receives the gifts from the people, wash the hands of the priest, assist the priest celebrant and deacon as necessary. The role of altar server requires completing these duties responsibly and with reverence.

At Queen of the Holy Rosary, students in 5th Grade through High School may be trained as altar servers. Training is held once a year. Altar servers will be asked to serve at weekend Masses and (for students at John Paul II School) all-school Masses on weekdays during the school year. Altar servers who go through additional training may be asked to serve at weddings and funerals.
