Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to religious formation for children from infant to 12 years of age. CGS embraces Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision of developmental stages of the child by offering different prepared environments for the 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12 year old to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Within the prepared environment (the atrium), the CGS catechist offers presentations rooted in Scripture and the Liturgy that introduce the child to some of the main tenets of our faith, including Christ as the Good Shepherd, the true presence of Jesus in the bread and wine, Parables of the Kingdom of God, and the Holy Sacraments. The child’s personal work, using materials provided, enables further meditation on the mysteries addressed by the presentation, inviting the child to hear and follow Jesus’ voice, remain in Jesus, and build the Kingdom of God.
At this time Queen of the Holy Rosary will be offering Catechesis of the Good Shepherd during the Christ Life Program beginning in February. The program will be offered for all 3 to 6 year olds and any child that is 7 to 10 who has never been in a CGS atrium before. Look for more information to register for Christ Life and CGS in future bulletins.
We are in need of adults who are trained or interested in being trained as Catechists. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Catechist.
