First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation 2023

First Reconciliation is a wonderful sacrament! While all of our sins are wiped away in Baptism, we are only baptized once. There are many situations in which we find ourselves in need of being restored to a state of grace. Your child will be receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation this fall, ahead of making their First Communion next spring. There are a few important dates to mark!

Light of Christ mini-retreat - Saturday, October 14, 2023

This retreat is centered around renewal of the Baptismal promises. Since many of us were too young to remember our baptism and make the promises for ourselves, we will renew our baptismal promises, learn about the Church that we are members of, and learn how we as individuals make the body of Christ. We will meet from 9:30am to 11:00am on Saturday, October 14th. Please bring your child to the Parish Hall at 9:30am. Parents are welcome to stay, but not required to do so. You will be able to pick them up in the Hall at 11:00am.

Parent Meeting - Sunday, October 22nd, 2023

Parents are required to join Fr. Bill Bruning, pastor, and Grace Trainor, DRE, for a brief meeting about the sacrament of Reconciliation, and an explanation of the preparation their children will be receiving. This meeting will occur during the regular SOR time, from 10:15am to 11:00am. Join us for opening prayer with SOR, then have a seat in the JPII Cafeteria! You will have a chance to ask any questions you may have to Fr. Bill or to Grace Trainor.

First Confession - Thursday, November 16th, 2023 at 7 pm

Children will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday, November 16th at 7 pm. Please come dressed in clean, modest attire (no rips or stains, appropriate to be in the Church). We will start with a brief liturgy of the word, with a song, opening prayer, Gospel passage, and short reflection from Fr. Bill. We will do an examination of conscience as a class and our act of contrition. Afterwards, students and parents are invited to attend the sacrament together. Students and families may return to their pew for quiet prayer and reflection. We will have a closing prayer and dismissal blessing once everyone is finished.
