Service to the Most Vulnerable in Our Community
On the first Saturday of each month, parishioners help the Sisters and Friars of the Poor of Jesus Christ Franciscan Sisters’ home in Kansas City, Kansas, feed the poor. Your help is very much appreciated!
As we partner with the Sisters to meet the needs of the community, there are some changes in the program from how it has been conducted in the past.
1. The Sisters will no longer be going on the streets on Saturdays; however, they will go out every Tuesday.
2. We will continue to collect donations on the first Saturday of each month from 1PM to 145PM in the southwest corner of the church parking lot.
3. Our sign up genius donations will remain the same, with the exception of sandwiches. We are asked to donate the sandwich makings,(e.g., bread, cheese, ham, peanut butter and jelly, etc) but NOT make the sandwiches. There are volunteers on Tuesday mornings that will make the sandwiches, and all are invited to join.
The Sisters will continue to receive the donations that have been collected every Saturday of the month, the only difference is they will make the sandwiches on Tuesday mornings and Tuesday will be the only street ministry day.
The Sisters are discussing the possibility of another service for the poor, such as prison ministry. Please pray for them.
For those who are used to coming to street ministry on Saturdays and still want to experience the work of mercy, you can come on Tuesdays or you can join the friars on Saturday mornings.
Also, the sisters would like to inform us that VIRTUS will be required for all volunteers, as requested by the Archdiocese. You can check with the QHR parish office regarding which day the training is available. (Please, those who don't have Virtus training yet need to do so as soon as possible. Virtus training is required for all volunteers.)
